Not long before my 65th birthday in 2016 I was diagnosed with a debilitating disease that required me to retire from the construction industry after 40+ years. Normally I would have been devastated but five years prior to this news I had dedicated my life to God through His Son Jesus Christ and was very aware that all things have an eternal purpose, not just what we are dealing with in the here and now.
I came home from the doctor’s office and immediately got on my knees and acknowledged that God had a purpose in this and simply prayed, “God, I’m too young to quit so You show me what I am about to do.”
Little did I know that when most men my age would welcome retirement, I instead would spend the next months and now years doing something I had never done and starting a business that would actually turn into a ministry. It’s been a joyous journey. I had always dabbled in calligraphy and one day when my neighbor received a greeting card that I had mailed her with her name calligraphed she simply said, “You know you really ought to make greeting cards.” Bingo. The light came on.
I immediately bought art supplies and for the next few months tried my luck at watercolor painting. It was a disaster. Then one day I bought some fine tipped colored ink pens and drawing pencils and I found that I had a buried ability to create art. Never have I taken art lessons nor had any training but the next thing I knew I was producing artwork that would work for greeting cards in the right situation.
During those same years I had been collecting miscellaneous quotes to which I had linked Bible verses. I then put them with the artwork to make these greeting cards of comfort and hope. This website nearly 60 of these cards which I have produced by the grace of God. I never start any artwork on a greeting card without first getting on my knees and asking for help because, as I tell God, “You know I don’t know what I am doing so just put it together for me.” And He does.
God wants you to know how much He loves and cares about you. These cards are a way He puts it in writing for you. God wants you to tell your family and friends that He loves and cares about them too. These cards are full of hope, encouragement, love, and unique ways to let you know that there is a mighty God who “has your back!” And He wants you to share that with others too.
I guess retirement is not in the “cards” for me. I think Jesus said it best in John 15:16 – “You didn’t choose Me, I chose you and appointed you so that you may go and bear fruit – fruit that will last and so that whatever you ask in My name the Father will give you.” Go to the shopping page and find some of that fruit to pass around.
